In information theory, a measure of information conveyed by the occurrence of two events of definite joint probability; in mathematical notation, this measure l(xi, yj) for two particular events xi, yj from the sets x1 ...xn and y1...ym equals the logarithm of the reciprocal of the joint probability p(xi,yj) of the occurrence of both events: l(xi,yj)=log1p(xi,yj).
